Astrology musings about AI
The astrology community has been using technology for many years, earlier than lots of other businesses. We have been early adopters of technology to aid in the painstaking work of calculation and also for astrological interpretations.
When I first learned to cast charts using an ephemeris and tables of houses in 1968, these books were the only method of calculation in those days. Math skills and patience were required.
Changes Made Calculations Easier
In the early 1980s, I bought an astrology calculator which I believe was called a Deluxe Astroscope. I don’t remember much of what it looked like except that it was a flat black box like thing with buttons to push. I do remember it spit out planetary locations and I didn’t need to calculate charts by hand any more.
In the mid 80s, I bought my first computer, an Apple 2E, along with a dot matrix printer, and software that produced a delineation ( a summary of the meanings of the aspects) and a chart. The software did a great job of describing aspects one by one, but did not synthesize the information to give a cohesive view of a person’s chart. That was the job of the astrologer.
Moving Forward
Lately I’ve been using AI to analyze aspects in a client’s chart. This has been an interesting experiment. Often the AI gets the numbers wrong, I correct it, get an apology, and the AI then recalculates and re-analyses and does a very good job.
It cannot yet stand alone, though. One time, giving me wrong positions of the planets, I corrected it and got an apology that said “we apologize, we didn’t have our ephemeris”. 🤭
There is still a need for humans in this AI world. I am human and wrote this blog, myself, without the benefit of AI but with the benefit of my keyboard and my laptop computer, plus Microsoft word. I may use AI to help me see a different perspective of someone’s aspects, but, as yet, I am still in charge of all the readings I do.
